Configuring Line Pack

Configuration of the Line Pack application is made possible on the property pages of the Line Pack EIE device editor in the DDS. To be able to open the Line Pack editor, you must have the CxDdsLPackEditors.dll file registered on your computer (CygNet\Support). See Installing the Line Pack EIE.

Once the driver has been successfully installed, a new Line Pack device can be added to the DDS. The topics that follow describe configuration options.

Add a Line Pack Device

The following topics discuss how to add and configure a Line Pack device. A Line Pack device instance is defined as an Import/Export device type in the DDS.

1. Using CygNet Explorer, open the Device Definition Service (DDS), and select the Import/Export Devices page.
2. Right-click in the white space and select New Import/Export Device.
3. In the Select a Device Type… list select LinePack Calculation Engine, and click OK.

Note: If you right-click on an existing import device, that device will be used as a template; right-click in the white space for a blank record.

4. Configure the device and save your work often by clicking Apply or OK (Apply saves the changes and keeps the dialog box open; OK saves the changes and closes the box).

Configure a Line Pack Device

The Line Pack device editor interface contains seven pages: Device, Settings, Calculations, UDC Map, Global Inputs, Line Pack, and Mass Balance. Each page is described in subsequent topics.

• The Device page contains general information about the device such as the device name, description, transaction logging, and device security. You can also execute a calculation from this page. See Configuring the Line Pack Device.
• The Settings page is used to configure default system settings, including those related to CygNet service specification, CPU throttle, XML format specification, facility types and hierarchy relationships, and segment status. See Configuring System Settings.
• The Calculations page is where you choose the pipeline content. For the selected substance, configure optional status bits, formula properties, and other required calculation settings on this page. See Configuring Calculation Settings.
• The UDC Map page is used to define all the UDCs used for input and output points. The UDCs vary depending on the substance being measured. See Configuring UDC Mappings.
• The Global Inputs page is where you specify default and system inputs to be used when no such values are specified for a pack segment. See Configuring Global Inputs.
• The Line Pack page displays all configured line pack segment facilities in an expandable tree along with all associated child pack sub-segments. For any segment you can view and edit current status and volume. This page is where you configure the inputs used in the Line Pack calculation rules applied to the selected pack segment. See Configuring Line Pack Rules.
• The Mass Balance page displays all configured segments that will be used to calculate mass balance in an expandable tree. For each segment you can configure and view the inlet and outlet flow facilities that determine the direction of flow through the pipeline. Inlets and outlets can be either segments or meters. See Configuring Mass Balance.

Input Details

The following table describes the facility and point record configurations required for Line Pack. These must be configured for the facility of every pack sub-segment and for any pack segments that have no pack sub-segments.
